Capoeira

Hey!! I am going to share with you an interesting Brazilian martial art called Capoeira! (pronounce as Kup~po~e~ra)

Capoeira is an unique martial art which involves the combinations of sports, martial arts and music. It uses rythem as their momentom to execute this martial art techniques. In other sense, a Capoeira student is actually DANCING during combat. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly kicks and quick leg sweeps, with some ground and aerial acrobatics, knee, elbows, punches and headbutts.
Brazilian actually regards Capoeira as a game and is to be "played", not fought.

During training

During training, One will have to find a partner to training together. Instead of sparring like any other martial arts, partners actually thrive off of each other, feed on each other and build each other up. If you were to observe their training method, one will perform techniques that will not even touch his partner, same goes to the other partner as well. In other words, both of them are actually dancing cooperatively along with the rythem of the music.

My thoughts
In my opinion, Capoeira is really interesting!! Who would have thought that dancing can also be used as a martial art. I know many friends who love dancing, maybe they could pick up Capoeira classes. This not only satisfy their passion, it also allow them to learn "more" about dancing. Isn't this AWESOME!? How I hope a martial art can be develope from my interest as well. From ARCADE?? I hope.=X

My personal experience!!

Recently, I just came back from Melacca and I went with my Aikido companies. The reason we went to Melacca was actually an exchange programme that was to visit my Sensei's friend who happen to be a sensei as well. This exchange programme will be up often around every 3 months as Sensei wishes us to communicate and train with overseas friends as well. Things turn out to be fun!!

On the first day, our Sensei brought us to lots of interesting and fun places. The foods in Melacca were awesome too!! As for the second day, we prepared ourselves for training in the hotel lobby and waited to be fetched to the Dojo.

Some photographs of me training in Melacca with my buddies and foreign friends.

Training was fun! Learned so much new stuffs which were not taught in Singapore. Haha.
It's a pity that I didn't have photographs of me doing more amazing techniques.
However, I still have group photographs of me,friends and the Sensei of Melacca.

Group photo with the honourable Sensei of Melacca!

Group photo with my buddies and seniors.

If you joined me,
we will get to go overseas training,
we will get to learn discipline
and you will get to know me!! HAHA!
Just look at all the fun I had! Join me at ZhenQiShu Aikido now!

Kyudo: Way of the bow

http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/reply/231536/t/Re-The-enchanting-art-of-Kyudo.html

Kyudo which means the "Japanese way of the bow", is an archery martial art. It is considered to be the purest of all martial arts. It of course involves bows and arrows where one use to train his concentration and composure. The bow is called a "yumi" and is traditionally made out of bamboo, wood and leather, using techniques that have not changed for a long time. On the other hand, the length of the arrow,or "ya", is determined by the draw length of the archer. The archer is also known as the "yatsuka". Of course,Modern kyudo is practiced primarily as a method of physical, moral, and spiritual development.

Yep!! I believe many of us did not heard of any martial art like this? Frankly speaking, I was very impressed and eagered to share this martial art with you guys when I discovered it online!! Interesting ya? To have an archery as a martial art.

If you guys had NOTICED! The girl in Inuyasha is a Kyudoka...XD

The Art of kicking and punching

TAEKWONDO

Hi. Today I am going to tell you about an AWESOME martial art.... TAEKWONDO!

What is taekwondo?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art which using they legs for combat and their fist to defense. Known by it's fast, high and powerful kicks, the name Taekwondo is actually a korean word which represents..
  • Tae='to strike or block with the foot' or 'to kick', it also means 'jump'
  • K'won='Fist', 'to strike or block with hand'
  • Do='The way of' or 'art'.
Currently, Taekwondo is one of the most popular modern sport. It doesn't has any age limit to learn this martial art. Even kids started learning Teakwondo at the age of 3, Adults are also welcoming too.

The 4 disciplinces in Taekwondo

Taekwondo involves the 4 disciplinces.

The objectives of Taekwondo

  1. to develop an appreciation for Taekwondo as a sport and as an art
  2. to stay fit and healthy
  3.  to improve one character
  4. to learn self-defense skills
  5. to develop responsibility among each other

Youth Olympic Taekwondo news flash: Daryl Tan wins Singapore’s first medal

International Convention Centre, Monday, August 16, 2010 —Although the champion goes to Iranian. Singapore’s male taekwondo representative Daryl Tan did the nation proud despite losing his semi-final to Iran’s Rezaei Kaveh 0-6, 0-9 and 0-12 in the Men’s Under 55kg category. .
With no bronze medal playoffs scheduled, it meant the 17-year-old has clinched Singapore’s first ever Youth Olympic medal.
Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, came and  witnessed Daryl's blood racing battle. The fight was tough but Dr Vivian Balakrishnan  was still proud and touched by Daryl's efforts and archievements.
He said,
“He’s a wonderful athlete. He put up an impressive fight, showing never-give-up spirit and self-belief. I’m happy about it and I hope to see more of such young athletes coming up,”

My thoughts

Well....I'm not learning Taekwondo but I seem to be interested in this kind of martial art too.
Before I joined Aikido, I was actually frustrating over choosing between Taekwondo and Aikido.
However, it is alright we have different martial backgrounds as we are all actually learning the
same thing, discipline and responsibility.I have a friend learning Taekwondo and we often discussed detail on our own martial art which I think is a very meaningful thing. Sometime, I even compared Aikido and Taekwondo on whichis better, but in the end I realised it was an unnecessary question as learning martial art is not about being stronger than the others.Perhaps, I may even spare some time to watch a training of taekwondo, to observe how they train and able to witness their amazing kicking techniques!!

Is learning taekwondo safe?

Yes. It is safe. Although taekwondo involves lots of physical attacking, the learners were given full body protection gears which will prevent them from fatal injuries. Sometime, two person will have to spar, which is partner training in order to prepare them for any upcoming competitions, but do not worry as rules were being set like no kicking at the head and other important parts of the body. Also, is it a believe that a taekwondo person will know how to take care of his partner at the same time, protecting himself.

The Art of Peace

AIKIDO

Found of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.
http://www.ucs.mun.ca/~randy/morihei.html

Background of Aikido

So, what's exactly is the Art of Peace?
Aikido is a popular Japanese traditional martial art which works quite differently from other martial arts. How was it different? It doesn't involve any kicks nor punches but unique techniques like locks and throws. Instead using brute strenght and struggle against your foe, Aikido teaches you make use of your opponent's strenght against themselves. Which means, the harder they come, the harder they fall! Therefore, by staying calm and peaceful, you could actually overcome bigger opponent easily.

My personal experiences

Of course, in order to share more about this awesome martial art, me myself too learn Aikido.Haha. Yea!! I was once a so called "lifeless" guy playing computer from day to night during my secondary school period. Well, now in polytechnic, I couldn't expect that I joined Aikido.

Aikido also consist of clans around the world. What so I mean by clan? It simply means different classes that teach Aikido. Like for me, I myself is a member of http://zhenqishu.com/. There were many other clans which I think you may be interested to look into, larger clans like http://www.aikikai.or.jp/eng/index.htm and http://www.aikidoshinjukai.com/eng/home.htm  are actually available in Singapore.

Speaking about the first day I joined Aikido, Wearing the GI(martial art uniform) made me feel so awesome!! It really feel like wearing something completely different from the normal T-shirt we wear everyday.Well, since I'm a beginner last time, I was a White Belt. Trainings were quite fun yet exhausting, however I got used to it within a month and I seriously love this activity very much!

However, one setback of Aikido is that it do not consist of any competitions as it do not involve any kicking nor punching to compete with. But still, there are always events where Aikido can be outstanding as well~~ For me, as a Blue belt now, I was part of the Aikido demonstration in a "Healthy Lifestyle Event", and I felt very EXCITING at that moment!

Interesting Information

If your do not know, there is a ranking system in most martial arts and Aikido is one of them. They rank a person skills and experiences by using belt colours. This is why you could see martial artists having different colour of belt around their wraist. Normally, a beginner will start with a white belt first and then follow by the next colour as time goes on. While, for me...I'm currently a blue belt. HAHA!

Some Techniques

Ikkyou. A lock technique which is commonly use by police.

Disarm techniques are especially practical when you face someone with weapons.

Irimi Naga. One way to throw your foe!

Why do people learn martial arts? Some may say it is used for self-defense. Some may say it is for keeping the body fit purposes. But I think learning a martial art is more of training one's person character. Natually, when a person joined a clan of martial art, he or she will tend to behave better than the he or she in the past, this is a trend! Take myself for example, I used to be a computer addict, however joining Aikido actually allow me to break free from that bad habit and now I hardly play computer games, also I found myself being more sensible than my past self which is a wonderful thing!!

Of course, there's a reason to be discipline. So we will not abuse the techniques we had learned. However, when the right time comes, this is where you see the result.

Here a short video about using Aikido when encounter dangers.
