Background of Aikido
So, what's exactly is the Art of Peace?
Aikido is a popular Japanese traditional martial art which works quite differently from other martial arts. How was it different? It doesn't involve any kicks nor punches but unique techniques like locks and throws. Instead using brute strenght and struggle against your foe, Aikido teaches you make use of your opponent's strenght against themselves. Which means, the harder they come, the harder they fall! Therefore, by staying calm and peaceful, you could actually overcome bigger opponent easily.
My personal experiences
Of course, in order to share more about this awesome martial art, me myself too learn Aikido.Haha. Yea!! I was once a so called "lifeless" guy playing computer from day to night during my secondary school period. Well, now in polytechnic, I couldn't expect that I joined Aikido.
Aikido also consist of clans around the world. What so I mean by clan? It simply means different classes that teach Aikido. Like for me, I myself is a member of http://zhenqishu.com/. There were many other clans which I think you may be interested to look into, larger clans like http://www.aikikai.or.jp/eng/index.htm and http://www.aikidoshinjukai.com/eng/home.htm are actually available in Singapore.
Speaking about the first day I joined Aikido, Wearing the GI(martial art uniform) made me feel so awesome!! It really feel like wearing something completely different from the normal T-shirt we wear everyday.Well, since I'm a beginner last time, I was a White Belt. Trainings were quite fun yet exhausting, however I got used to it within a month and I seriously love this activity very much!
However, one setback of Aikido is that it do not consist of any competitions as it do not involve any kicking nor punching to compete with. But still, there are always events where Aikido can be outstanding as well~~ For me, as a Blue belt now, I was part of the Aikido demonstration in a "Healthy Lifestyle Event", and I felt very EXCITING at that moment!
Interesting Information
If your do not know, there is a ranking system in most martial arts and Aikido is one of them. They rank a person skills and experiences by using belt colours. This is why you could see martial artists having different colour of belt around their wraist. Normally, a beginner will start with a white belt first and then follow by the next colour as time goes on. While, for me...I'm currently a blue belt. HAHA!

Why do people learn martial arts? Some may say it is used for self-defense. Some may say it is for keeping the body fit purposes. But I think learning a martial art is more of training one's person character. Natually, when a person joined a clan of martial art, he or she will tend to behave better than the he or she in the past, this is a trend! Take myself for example, I used to be a computer addict, however joining Aikido actually allow me to break free from that bad habit and now I hardly play computer games, also I found myself being more sensible than my past self which is a wonderful thing!!
Of course, there's a reason to be discipline. So we will not abuse the techniques we had learned. However, when the right time comes, this is where you see the result.
Here a short video about using Aikido when encounter dangers.
